Day 270: Update from the Opal capital of the world

Just checking in, as I have some connectivity here in Coober Pedy, the Opal capital of the world. This mining town is in the middle of nowhere! It’s quite interesting to learn of the stories behind the mines and the town it created.

The previous three days we have been travelling through very remote Outback, first through some mountains, and then later through flat very dry plains, what they call “The Back of Beyond”.  It’s been unsealed (dirt) roads most of the way.  Last night, we slept in swags under the stars, near the largest cattle station in the world, larger than Belgium, in a town called William Creek which has only 12 human residents on average, but has gazillions of bush flies!

Food has mostly been fresh sandwiches and wraps, with a few curries and tacos too.  Fruit has also been easily available, and well enjoyed!

I’ll update with pics if I can later.
